A Study with Reference to Revival of Stressed Assets
Client: Souparno Roy
Research Topic: Corporate Insolvency Resolution under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016: A Study with Reference to Revival of Stressed Assets
Discipline: Law β LL.M (Business Law)
Core Support: Dissertation structuring guidance, legal research review and refinement, bibliography and referencing support, formatting guidance, editing and proofreading, and pre-submission academic review
This wording makes it clear that Excellence Innovations guided, reviewed, and refined the clientβs work rather than completing the dissertation on their behalf.

The Starting Point
The project began with a substantial LL.M dissertation draft that required focused academic guidance and review to improve its coherence, university alignment, and overall presentation. The clientβs research centred on corporate insolvency resolution under the IBC, 2016, while the existing draft also needed refinement in areas such as front-matter sequencing, bibliography organisation, legal lists, chapter consistency, and final quality checks.
Our role was therefore to review the existing work, identify areas for improvement, and provide structured guidance on document organisation, legal-research consistency, referencing, formatting, and presentation. The dissertation remained entirely client-led, with Excellence Innovations supporting the refinement process rather than creating or replacing the clientβs original research.
Guiding the Dissertation Structure to Meet University Requirements
One of the key areas requiring attention was structural compliance with the universityβs prescribed submission format. The client provided a detailed sequence covering the cover page, declaration, certificate, acknowledgement, abstract, Turnitin pages, table of contents, alphabetically arranged abbreviations, list of cases, list of statutes, individual chapters, and the final bibliography.
Our role was to review the existing dissertation against these requirements and guide the client on correct sequencing, consistency, and presentation. We also highlighted areas where pagination, headings, contents, and supporting legal lists needed closer alignment. This helped the client refine the overall document structure while keeping the academic content and final submission decisions entirely client-led.
OUR RESPONSE
β’ Reviewed the dissertation structure against the clientβs university submission requirements and provided guidance on the correct sequence of sections.
β’ Advised on consistency across the front matter, headings, chapter flow, pagination, and table of contents to improve overall presentation.
β’ Guided the organisation of abbreviations, cases, statutes, and bibliography so the legal reference sections were presented clearly and consistently.
β’ Supported the client in incorporating Turnitin evidence into the appropriate place within the final document structure.
β’ Conducted a final academic review to check alignment between the research questions, methodology, case analysis, findings, and conclusion, highlighting areas requiring refinement before submission.

Strengthening the Legal Research, Not Just the Layout
Our support extended beyond formatting and document organisation to the review and refinement of the clientβs legal research approach. The dissertation followed a doctrinal and analytical qualitative methodology, drawing on statutes, judicial decisions, academic literature, policy papers, committee reports, and institutional publications.
We reviewed how these sources were being used across the dissertation and provided guidance on improving their consistency, relevance, and connection to the research questions. Particular attention was also given to the clientβs comparison of the IBC with pre-Code mechanisms such as SICA and SARFAESI, helping strengthen the discussion of recovery, creditor control, timeliness, and value maximisation.
The legal arguments and interpretations remained client-led, while Excellence Innovations focused on research review, analytical guidance, and improving the clarity and coherence of the existing discussion.
JUDICIAL ANALYSIS
Our review focused on how the client used key judicial decisions such as Swiss Ribbons, Innoventive Industries, and Essar Steel to support the discussion of constitutional validity, creditor rights, CoC commercial wisdom, and the practical operation of CIRP. We provided guidance on strengthening the connection between these judgments and the dissertationβs research objectives while keeping the legal interpretation client-led.
CASE STUDIES
The clientβs analysis of Essar Steel, Bhushan Steel, and Jet Airways was reviewed to assess how effectively the cases demonstrated issues such as value maximisation, business continuity, creditor recovery, litigation delays, and cross-border complexity. Our support centred on improving the organisation and analytical use of these case studies within the wider dissertation argument.
INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW
We also reviewed the discussion of NCLT, NCLAT, IBBI, Insolvency Professionals, and the CoC, providing guidance on how the client could more clearly connect legal design with institutional capacity and practical implementation. This helped strengthen the coherence of the institutional analysis without altering the clientβs original research direction or conclusions.
What the dissertation ultimately established
Our review helped the client present the dissertation findings in a clear and balanced way. The study concluded that the IBC significantly strengthened Indiaβs insolvency framework by replacing a fragmented, debtor-centric system with a more consolidated and creditor-oriented regime.
At the same time, the clientβs analysis also recognised continuing challenges, including procedural delays, litigation, institutional capacity constraints, information asymmetry, inter-creditor conflict, and a high incidence of liquidation.
We supported the client in refining how these findings were linked to the final recommendations, which focused on strengthening NCLT/NCLAT capacity, improving professional and regulatory oversight, enhancing interim-finance support, expanding pre-packaged resolution mechanisms, and developing a stronger cross-border insolvency framework. The conclusions and recommendations remained grounded in the clientβs own research and analysis.

Through the review and refinement process, the client was able to finalise a 138-page LL.M dissertation incorporating the required front matter, table of contents, legal lists, six core chapters, references, and bibliography. Our role focused on structural guidance, legal-research review, formatting support, editing, proofreading, and pre-submission quality checks, while the dissertation content and final academic decisions remained client-led.
The final document also included the clientβs Turnitin evidence showing 1% overall similarity. Following submission, the client later informed us that the dissertation received a score of 90 out of 100 in the LL.M final result.
This outcome reflects the value of focused academic review and refinement in helping a client strengthen an existing dissertation while retaining ownership of the research and final submission.
